I was a number 4 man for some time in Kunsan back in May '71-Jun '72. Spent most of the time on the jammer with a drink in my hand. Yep....a gooood drink....all day. We were loading some special weapons on the F-4's in the whiskey arches. The road we traveled wound around like the taxi way did....nothing was straight. There were a couple of ponds in the middle of the area and the road made a couple of turns around them.

It was late afternoon and I went after a weapon for the last load. In a hurry, the guy at the trailer didn't get the tie down strap tight and I missed it. After a few bumps and corners, the strap was dragging. Any attempt to stop or slow down caused the bomb to slide forward. Next thought was aim at the water and stand on the brakes. That bomb just spiraled off the cradal and shot into the water, buried. The jammer stopped about 10 feet from getting wet.

I picked up the strap....went back to the trailer, bs'd the ammo troop...and got another weapon....and went on to finish the load so the mission would be on time. Told my crew chief we had to take care of some business later.

We went out about midnight and got an MJ-4 and located the bomb and hoisted it out of the water. Hauled it back to the storage area and stuck it on a trailer with several other "special weapons". Took a bit to sneak it in there too. Next morning, no one could figure out what happened and they wrote it off since no one would admit to not seeing it was missing, how it came back, or how it got scratched and dirty.

Decided to drink a bit more on a daily basis after that......ahhhhh.....The Kun....
